Patch Notes v0.5.4
Updates:
Skill Shop
- Jukebox Mode has been added to the game. Players can unlock new songs by earning an S-Rank on stages and then equip custom songs to play during levels.
General
- The audio system for the game has been completely refactored, allowing for improved functionality and easier use on the development side.
- A new option now exists to start the game in new game plus mode, which has the following features
- All zones in the demo are unlocked from the start
- All color powers are unlocked from the start
- The perfect homing attack is unlocked from the start
Bug Fixes:
Levels
Tropical Resort Mission 1
- A previous update changed the laser wisp’s aiming functionality, making it no longer possible to hit a laser crystal needed to collect the stage’s second red ring. This has been corrected.
- This level requires players to collect all of the sign wisps in order, but previously when a player entered the final section of the level WITHOUT collecting the previous sign wisps, they’d essentially be softlocked as there was no way to get back. This has been corrected and backtracking is now possible in the stage
- Changes have been made to the stage’s general layout
- Changes have been made to enemy placement
- The time limit for this stage has been increased, making it easier to get the maximum time bonus
Starlight Carnival Act 1
- Previously, a camera bug existed that would cause the camera to no longer track Sonic after using the Laser Wisp to obtain the stage’s first red ring. This has been corrected.
Planet Wisp Act 1
- The opening sequence for this stage has been shortened
- The underwater section in the stage’s lower route has been updated with a more engaging layout
Planet Wisp Act 2
- The minecart ride at the end of the stage has been shortened
General
- Previous versions of the game had small audio bugs that would cause unanticipated behavior, such as stopping music after the power sneakers or invincibility theme played. With the new audio system this should now be corrected.
- Previously, the millisecond value of the in-game stage counter was counting in frames (0-60), NOT MILLISECONDS (0-999). Additionally, the counter was basing its time values off of frames rather than milliseconds, resulting in the reported stage times being slightly inaccurate if the game strayed from 60 fps. This has been changed and stage times should now accurately display in minutes:seconds.milliseconds format and be time based instead of frame based.
- A bug existed in previous versions of the game that would sometimes cause two cutscene manager objects to load in cutscenes instead of one, making the call that transitions into the stage following the cutscene happen twice instead of once. This has been corrected
- A bug occasionally caused the ivory lightning wisp to behave improperly, dimming the stage when it was collected and brightening it when its effects wore off instead of the other way around. This has been corrected.
- When Sonic enters a level with a running start, a bug previously occurred where players could hold down an input and change Sonic’s state before the titlecard completed. This would lock Sonic into the new state and prevent the player from controlling him in any way unless the game was completely restarted. This has been corrected.
- When jumping from a zipline, there was previously a glitch where, if Sonic was near another homable object, he would try to homing attack it within the same frame as dismounting the zipline and be brought to a standstill. This would often result in his death in many gameplay areas. This has been corrected.
- A bug previously existed where if the boost button was held to speed up while skydiving, Sonic would immediately begin boosting if the boost button was still held once the skydive state ended. This has been corrected.
- Some temporary graphics throughout the game have been updated
- The audio for the game has been completely rebalanced
Due to various changes made to the game, v0.5.4 will NOT automatically update your save data and any old save data detected by the game will be deleted. Players who have played previous demos of Sonic Colors Demastered are encouraged to use the game’s new “New Game+” mode, which will allow you to start the game with all zones and color powers unlocked.
