Devlog #6 - More Progress on Violet Void Wisp


Hey everybody, what’s up? It’s time for another DevLog!

Violet Void Wisp Progress

Over the course of the past week, I have focused my attention on continuing to refine the implementation for the Violet Void wisp. Basic movement for the Violet Void color power is fully implemented and Sonic can slowly hover in all 4 cardinal directions as well as diagonally. I have also begun creating a new suction effect for enemies and items that will really sell the idea that they are being sucked up and absorbed by Sonic. Check it out in the GIF below!

I need to rewrite the suction effect code a bit to ensure everything stays organized. That being said, I’m pleased with how the effect looks in-game!

While using this power, Sonic will grow in size the more enemies he has absorbed. The larger he gets, the larger his suction radius gets and the faster he can move. I’m still tweaking the change in suction radius size and speed to ensure the power feels good to control. Once I complete that part, the power will be mostly done functionality-wise and I can likely begin ideating puzzles to utilize it within levels.
